Snapshot image backups let you recover dead servers fast

Written by David Ellison on June 1st, 2009

This involves taking a snapshot image of a whole server (or desktop PC or laptop). If the server fails, the image can be used to recreate it the server on any hardware – doesn’t have to be identical - long as it has enough disk space and memory.

What results will image backup give you?

  • Minimal down time in the event of a server failure
  • Images can be quickly restored to non-identical hardware, even to virtual machines
  • Recover a complete server within a few hours. (Tape restore of a whole server would normally take a day or more)
  • No need to laboriously reinstall software.

Every hard disk and every server will fail sooner or later no matter how carefully it is maintained. The best approach is to prepare your Plan B and be able to recover quickly when disaster strikes.

How long can you afford to be without your email and database systems?

Call ISN to ask about image backup solutions which will allow you to recover in the shortest time.

If even one minute of downtime is not acceptable for your business, we can help server replication or clustering.
