When companies merge, it is crucial that experienced hands are involved with integrating IT and telecomms systems so that business can continue with as little disruption as possible. ISN have helped oil companies (as well as banks and property companies) integrate with new acquisitions. When Afren bought Devon Energy's assets they turned to ISN for help with the IT and networking part of the project.

Case study: Côte d'Ivoire IT and Telecomms Project

"It wasn’t easy but ISN delivered exactly what we asked." - Patrick Cherlet - Afren plc

In early 2008, Afren engaged ISN to assist in the takeover of Devon Energy’s Cote d’Ivoire assets. The remit of the project was to ensure a smooth transition of all IT systems, covering three sites, to Afren on the day of the asset transfer.

After gathering the requirements from Afren’s asset team, ISN designed a solution which was primarily based on an Afren domain being installed and commissioned in Cote d’Ivoire, prior to the transfer.

When the time was right, all services and management functions were transferred from Devon staff to Afren staff. Naturally, this required a lot of careful planning and coordination which ultimately led to its success. ISN is now working closely with the local Cote d’Ivoire team on a number of IT and Telecomm improvement projects.

Patrick Cherlet, Afren’s Commercial Director commented:
“We gave ISN a task. It wasn’t easy but ISN delivered exactly what we asked. We cannot ask for more “

As a company, Afren needs to know that its IT systems are in the hands of a company that understands Oil and Gas and has the resources to deal with a wide variety of projects. We gave ISN a task. It wasn’t easy but ISN delivered exactly what we asked. We cannot ask for more.

Quick tip

Use "Intrinsically Safe" equipment in hazardous areas

It is important to use only electronic equipment (such as phones, wireless access points) that has been passed as intrinsically safe (IS) in hazardous environments like oil refineries or rigs where inflammable gas or liquids may be present.
