Meeting constantly changing business needs
KPDL (Karachaganak Project Developments Limited) is the London based support division for KPO, the world-wide operator of the Karachaganak field. One of the world's largest gas and condensate fields, the Karachaganak field is located in north-west Kazakhstan and covers an area of over 280 square kilometres. The field holds estimated hydrocarbons initially in place (HIIP) of 9 billion barrels of condensate and 48 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, with estimated gross reserves of over 2.4 billion barrels of condensate and 16 tcf of gas.
Today, Karachaganak is producing at record levels and is the largest gas producing field in Kazakhstan, accounting for some 45 per cent of the country's total gas production and around 16 per cent of total liquids production.
Sound financial sense
Due to the nature of major multi-billion dollar Oil and Gas projects, the business demands are forever changing. Some eight years ago, KPDL took the decision to outsource the maintenance and support of its IT infrastructure. "We were acquiring more and more hardware and realised that almost every item was being managed by a different organisation as well as by our own internal IT team," explained KPDL's UK IT Manager, Tim H ebb leth wai te. "It made sound financial and operational sense to partner with a single, specialist IT Managed Services Provider."
